While researching the silk weaving of Laos, I was introduced to one of the very finest and oldest weaving houses of Vientiane. Madame Nikhomme has been weaving in the traditional ways for over 50 years, and most of her work is found in the opulent interiors of Japanese and European royalty. I was fortunate enough to spend an afternoon with her and some of her staff, as they displayed their weaving abilities, and the art of organic hand dyeing. All of the dyes she utilizes in her products are made from fresh picked local trees and plants, which are pounded into pulps.
